We have a total of about 4 miles of good trout and grayling fishing on the River Ure upstream of Aysgarth village, mostly both banks.

There are three separate lengths – click on the links below for details of each:

Left bank – top length – about 800m of fishing.
Left bank – bottom length – about 1.6 km of fishing.
Right bank – about 4.4 km of fishing.

Introductions to this fishery
David Brown, the BCAA Watcher at this fishery, has kindly offered to accompany existing or prospective BCAA members, to introduce them to this fishery, and to advise on tackle and tactics.

Rules
1. All lengths are open for fishing from 25th March to the following 14th March.
2. Anglers are allowed to fish with one rod only.
3. Anglers must use barbless or de-barbed hooks.
4. No spinning is allowed from 1st October to the following 24th March, inclusive (in the close season for trout).
5. No keepnets are allowed at any time.


Left bank – top length

This length is about 800 metres long. The top limit is about 600 metres upstream of the stepping stones where the footpath to Woodhall crosses the river. Fishing starts on the left bank of the beck from the old railway bridge at OS grid ref SD 969 901 approx, and extends to the bottom limit at OS grid ref SD 976 897 approx.

This fishing can be accessed by crossing the river by the stepping stones or from the footpath from Woodhall. Parking is available at the side of the A684 – please park tidily and safely.

Left bank – bottom length

This length is about 1600 metres long. The top limit is at OS grid ref SD 980 895 approx (on Map 2) and fishing extends downstream to the Iron Footbridge over the river, one mile west of Aysgarth (on Map 3).

Entrance to this fishing is via the footpath and the Iron Bridge over the river at OS grid reference SD 995 889 approx. Parking is available in the layby at the southern end of the bridge.

Right bank

This length is about 4400 metres long. The top limit (see Map 1 below) is about 700 metres (two fields) upstream of the stepping stones where the footpath to Woodhall crosses the river. The length extends downstream to the limit sign near the Iron Footbridge, about one mile west of Aysgarth village – see Map 3.

Entrance to this fishing is either:
– from the footpath which crosses the river at the stepping stones (see Map 1);
– from the 2 points on the A684 close to Throstle Nest Farm (see Map 2);
– or by the Iron Bridge one mile west of Aysgarth (see Map 3).

Parking is available either at the side of the A684 – park tidily and safely – or at the layby next to the Iron Bridge.
